They began working with a few Exeter schools over the last couple of years but are keen to reach out to more.
In the first instance they are keen to set up some one hour Dementia Friends sessions with the children, and/or staff and parents. The sessions are interactive with resources for 6-16 year olds and can be integrated into a number of lesson plans creating greater understanding of dementia. The feedback from the children and teachers has been incredible and has made a real difference. The alliance have been honoured to deliver a number of sessions, most recently reaching 70, 8-11 year olds over 3 separate 45 minute slots at Cranbrook Education Campus. Mark and Sacha attended the 2019 DAPH Conference at Saunton Sands Hotel, representing Exeter Consortium and Exeter Supply Partnership. Not only was it a nice to be out of the office and spend the day looking at a lovely view (sea view picture below!), but also a fantastic opportunity to meet new schools and catch up with familiar colleagues.
Keynotes were delivered by Professor Tanya Byron on ‘Resilient kids in an uncertain world’ and Sandy C. Newbigging on ‘To think or not to think? Calming the mind and living in the moment’. The afternoon provided an opportunity for delegates to come and say ‘Hello’ and find out about the exciting events we have coming up, many being interested in the courses and conferences being organised. We also made some exciting links with other exhibitors and plans are developing for working together to provide support for our schools. The conference had also organised some interesting activities for the afternoon, including stress management spa treatments and Tai Chi, all of which seemed very fitting for #worldmentalhealthday. We hope the delegates enjoyed the fun evening of fundraising activities and the second day of the conference. We thank DAPH for their hospitality and the opportunity to keep informing more people about Exeter Consortium and Exeter Supply Partnership. |
