Course overview - Primary

For Primary trainees the training begins in your “Home School” where you will be based for most of the time - and here you will develop an understanding of how schools are organised and some of the challenges they face. We believe that becoming familiar with your school at the beginning of the year is a very positive way to introduce you to the exciting challenges in the months ahead! You will spend much more time in school than other trainees on conventional PGCE programmes.

The autumn and summer terms are spent on placement in the Home School working with experienced colleagues in class, while in the spring term you move to another setting to work with a different age group.

Training for teaching is provided by experienced current practitioners in outstanding settings across the city during the course of the year. During the programme a course with Masters credits is delivered by the Bath Spa University and one day each week is typically allowed to accommodate this.

Taster sessions for our Primary (5-11) and Early Years (3-7) PGCE programmes are held in member schools, and you are warmly invited to come along to meet colleagues and discuss your plans. These events take place on a regular basis so please email itt@exeterconsortium.com or call 01392 927171 for more information.
